At about 14:00 on November 28, 2019, on the right K2–K4 section of the G98 Hainan Ring Road Highway, there was an orange machine shuttling back and forth. What is this?

It turns out that this is the first time that Hainan Provincial Highway Administration Bureau has introduced a Guimo robot for deep detection of diseased roads. The robot can detect road conditions within 3 meters underground of the highway, which is equivalent to a “CT inspection” of the diseased road.

According to the responsible person of Hainan Provincial Highway Administration Bureau, with the acceleration of the construction of Hainan Free Trade area (port), it is more and more urgent and important to do a good job of highway preventive maintenance, especially for those national and provincial trunk lines that span high liquid limit soil quality areas, vehicles are prone to diseases after frequent rolling, so it is necessary to carry out in-depth detection of disease signs.

For example, the right K2+000-K4+000 and K68+500-K69+500 sections of G98 East Highway are located in water-bearing area and high liquid limit soil section in volcanic rock area, respectively. Rut, passage, packing, settlement and other diseases have often occurred since they were opened to traffic for more than 20 years, and no obvious effect has been obtained after several times of repair.

To this end, at the World Transportation Conference held in Beijing in June 2019, Lin Dong, director of the Hainan Provincial Department of Transport, attached great importance to the technology and functions of the “Guimo robot” and immediately directed it. The Provincial Highway Administration Bureau has the courage to practice, take the road of scientific maintenance, and inject higher scientific and technological content into the future highway maintenance work.

According to the relevant person in charge of Guimu Robot Co., Ltd. Li Shuen, Guimo robot system is a road disease detection system, with full independent intellectual property rights. The system is composed of three parts: the first part is the robot data acquisition system, the second part is the disease data analysis system, the third part is the 3D data scene modeling and data management system. The robot system can intuitively reflect the overall situation of highway diseases by visualization, the detection depth can reach less than 3 meters, and the accuracy of disease location is 5 cm. After testing and data analysis, the robot system can fully understand the location, depth, type and area of the disease, which provides a reliable basis for the “right medicine” to deal with highway diseases.
